Handicraft Fair in Beira Mar Avenue

 


The Handicraft Fair in Beira-Mar Avenue is in front of Oasis Atlantico Hotels and takes place everyday of the week.

Centro Dragão do Mar de Arte e Cultura”

 

 

The CDMAC is a cultural center, a space for culture and leisure. With 33 thousand square meters of area, it was built and equipped within strict worldwide quality standards.

The architecture was designed by Dellberg Ponce de Lima and Fausto Nilo. Built in an old harbour area, the cultural center also has bars, restaurants, handicraft shops and theatres.

 

The CDMAC includes spaces as the Ceará Culture Memorial, the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Menezes Pimentel Public Library, a modern theatre room, two movie theatres, Rubens de Azevedo Planetarium, the Sergio Mota Theatre, an auditorium and classrooms.

Teatro José Alencar

 


Teatro José de Alencar is a Brazilian theater, officially opened in 1910 and features an eclectic architecture, a room show in art nouveau style, and a 120-seat auditorium.

Ceará Museum

 

 

Ceará Museum has a collection of more than 13 thousand pieces, which tell the story of Ceará: Paleontology, Archaeology / Anthropology and Furniture. It also displays permanent thematic exhibitions.

Fortaleza Museum

 

 

Museum of Fortaleza is located in the Old Lighthouse which was built between the years 1840 and 1846 by slaves. Built of brick, wood and iron, it represents one of the oldest buildings in Fortaleza.
 

Passeio Público de Fortaleza

 

 

“Praça dos Mártires” also known as “Passeio Público” is the oldest street of the city of Fortaleza. Besides the beautiful sea view, the square has many natural attractions such as trees.

House of José Alencar

 


The House of José de Alencar is a cultural institution maintained by the Federal University of Ceará. 
 

Cine São Luiz

 

 

Cinema São Luiz is the largest cinema in the city with 1,500 people capacity. It currently presents Cine Ceará and other film festivals. Since 2005, the Cultural Center hosts Jazz and Blues Festival and concerts in addition to typical film exhibitions.

Praça Ferreira

 

 

Praça Ferreira is a square in the city of Fortaleza. The square was officially declared an historical site and Fortaleza`s Heritage. 

Iracema Beach

 


Its name comes from Iracema character from the novel of José de Alencar. Near the city center, it has several nightclubs and entertainment centers.

Ponte Metálica

 

 

The English Bridge, also called "Metal Bridge", is on Iracema Beach. It was a project to improve the structure of the port of Fortaleza and because the engineers were English, it became known as "the English Bridge."

Praia do Futuro

 

 

Praia do Futuro is one of the best known beaches in the North-east with several "tents" (restaurants with typical food and seafood). The beach is very busy on Thursday nights, days of the traditional crab dish.

Mucuripe

 


Mucuripe is a neighbourhood, where the traditional Mucuripe Fair takes place on Thursdays.
 

Parque Ecológico do Rio Cocó

 

 

This Ecological Park is named after the river – Coco. Currently covers an area of 1155.2 hectares.
 

Cathedral of Fortaleza

 

 

The Fortaleza Metropolitan Cathedral is a Catholic church and headquarters of the Archdiocese of Fortaleza. The construction took forty years to complete, was initiated in 1938 and inaugurated in 1978. It seats 5,000 people and its towers have 75 meters height.

Messejana Lagoon

 

 

Located in the district of Messejana. Nearby you can find the market of Messejana. It has the largest statue of Iracema in Fortaleza. The figure represents the character immortalized by José de Alencar.

Parangaba Lagoon

 


The lagoon is known for the Birds Fair which takes place every Sunday.

Shopping Malls


Fortaleza has several shopping malls, among which the largest are Iguatemi Shopping, Aldeota and North Shopping. Del Paseo, Benfica and Via Sul are also important areas of commerce and entertainment.

Beach Park

 

 

Beach Park is a tourist complex on Porto das Dunas beach, 16 km far from Fortaleza. It is there where lies the biggest water park in Latin America and it is one of the main tourist destinations in the country. The Beach Park Complex has a complete infrastructure for tourism and leisure, one of the largest in the country and represents the natural beauty of the coast of Ceará.
