The Village of Santa Maria is just 5 minutes far from the Oasis Atlantico Salinas Sea Hotel, and besides the local people, also has a Portuguese, Italian and Senegalese community.
Santa Maria is located near a long beach of white sand and crystal blue sea and the pier in Santa Maria receives daily fish. You can see tunas and many other species, which are often traded and sold on site.
There are also several restaurants offering Cape Verdean, Portuguese and Italian specialities. The fresh seafood can be enjoyed in many of them. Barnacles, shrimps and lobsters are just some examples. Some of these establishments also have Cape Verdean live music.
There are also handicraft shops, many owned by immigrants from Senegal. The sale of fruits and vegetables is a common practice, there are also several grocery stores also providing these and other food products.
Pedra de Lume is a town located on the east coast of the island, near the sea, with a beach of remarkable beauty. In the crater of an ancient volcano, you can find the famous Salinas, where you can swim. Because of the high salt concentration, you will find yourself floating away into a blissful oblivion.
Espargos is the largest city and is located near the airport.
Buracona is a small bay located approximately 4 km west of the island's capital, Espargos.
